The problem
Prime Now promised delivery in an hour or two, from small warehouses inside cities. When I joined to launch the fourth one, nobody had written down how a building like that should run.
What I did
We wrote the procedures as we went: receive, stow, pick, pack, ship. I built a labor plan that mixed scheduled staff with flex shifts, and the first staffing model for Amazon Flex drivers at Prime Now. I worked out delivery routes by hand until engineering turned the logic into a product.
When other sites struggled, I was sent to steady them, including one in the UK.
What changed
The network went from 4 warehouses to 24 while I was there, and I helped launch eight of them. My site delivered more than 90% of orders on time, with the largest delivery radius in the country. Three of my four assistant managers were promoted.
